My masterthesis is a visual and theoretical alliance to approach the subject of the Doppelganger and its cultural impact, philosophical meaning and metaphorical power through the past centuries. Why is the Doppelganger such a visual appealing force, and how does it appear in illustrations, paintings and movies? Why am I, as an artist, so drawn to it? How do the original ideas of alter ego, romantical illusion, shadowself and mirrorstage translate to the post-modern era? And finally, what does my work as an illustrator and artist add to this ageold theme?
The work can be seen as a first step into the aesthetic sciences and a keen ineterst in the connectedness of the visual and the theoretical knowledge.
